Install, use, and troubleshoot Wilder Screen Keys.
Install
- Go to Pricing and pick the edition you need.
- Complete checkout (or request the Gift Edition). You’ll receive a license key by email.
- Download the installer from the link in your email.
- Run the installer. You’ll be asked to allow administrator access — this is required because the app installs a global keyboard hook so that arrow keys can move the cursor system-wide.
- When the app launches, click the tray icon, open Settings, and paste your license key.
System requirements. Windows 10 (build 1809 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit. Around 15 MB of disk space and under 50 MB of RAM.
First run
- Look for the Wilder tray icon in the system tray (the small icons near the clock). It will appear grey — the app is installed but not yet active. If you don’t see it, click the upward-arrow on the taskbar to see hidden icons.
- Press Caps Lock. The icon turns green — the app is now active.
- Hold the → arrow key. Your cursor moves smoothly to the right.
- Tap Space. That’s a left click.
- Press Caps Lock again to switch off. Your keyboard returns to normal.
Using it day to day
| Action | Key | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Toggle on / off | Caps Lock | Tray icon turns green when active, grey when inactive. |
| Move cursor | ↑ ↓ ← → | Hold two arrows for diagonal movement. |
| Left click | Space | Tap (press and release quickly). |
| Right click | Space × 2 | Double-tap within 500 ms. |
| Precision mode | Hold Space | Cursor slows to a quarter speed while held. |
| Move — left hand cluster | E up S left D down F right | Enable “Home Left” in Settings. |
| Move — right hand cluster | I up J left K down L right | Enable “Home Right” in Settings. |
Settings
Right-click the tray icon and choose Settings. You can adjust:
- Cursor speed — how fast the cursor moves when you hold an arrow.
- Precision multiplier — how much slower the cursor goes in precision mode.
- Double-click window — how long you have between spacebar taps for a right click.
- Precision threshold — how long you need to hold the spacebar before precision mode kicks in and the cursor slows down. Increase this if precision mode triggers when you mean to click.
- Easing — how smoothly the cursor accelerates and decelerates.
- Frame rate target — controls how often per second the app updates the cursor position. 60 FPS is the default and works well on any monitor; it uses minimal CPU. 120 FPS makes movement feel noticeably smoother on high-refresh-rate monitors (120 Hz or higher) but draws slightly more CPU. If your cursor feels choppy, try 120 FPS. If the app feels heavy on an older machine, stick with 60.
- Auto-start on login and a few similar quality-of-life toggles.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| Caps Lock doesn’t toggle the app | Quit and relaunch as administrator. The keyboard hook needs admin to install on first run. |
| Arrow keys do nothing | Confirm the tray icon is green. Press Caps Lock if it’s grey. |
| Ctrl shortcuts don’t work | Hold Ctrl first to pause the app, then press the shortcut. |
| Cursor feels laggy | Lower the cursor speed, or set frame rate target to 120 FPS if your monitor supports it. |
| Right-click misfires | Increase the double-click window in Settings. |
| Accidentally entering precision mode | Increase the hold threshold to 300–500 ms. |
| App crashes at startup | Delete %APPDATA%\Wilder\ScreenKeys\ and relaunch. Email us if it persists. |
